서울에서의 마지막순간
2017년 나는 독일로 떠나기로 결정한 후, 서울에서의 생활을 정리하며 문득 이 도시에서 제대로 된 여행을 하지 않았다는것을 깨달았습니다.
대학교, 대학원 그리고 회사생활을 하는 15년의 시간동안 나는 누구보다도 이 곳에서 적응을 잘 하며 살아왔다고 생각하고 있었습니다. 그만큼, 나에게 서울은 단지 삶의 공간일 뿐이었습니다.
매일매일 세계의 여러나라에선 이 도시를 보기위해 여행을 오는데, 나는 단지 출퇴근 또는 가끔의 외출을 위해 이 도시를 누비고 있었던 것이었습니다.
떠나기 전, 서울을 기억하기 위해 여행자가 되어보기로 했습니다.
이미 너무 익어버린 시선에, 첫 방문객들의 눈을 따라갈 순 없겠지만 그래도 주위를 둘러보며 누군가에겐 정말 가보고싶은 장소를 찾아 사진을 찍어보았습니다.
집에서 가까웠던 숭례문과 매일 퇴근시간 스쳐지나가던 경복궁의 모습, 그리고 매 주마다 올라가던 남산에서 보이던 서울을 눈에 담고 카메라에 담아왔습니다.
이 곳 독일에서는 오히려 이국적으로 느낄 수 있는 풍경이라서인지 특히나 그리운 마음을 담아 편집해보았습니다.
2017년의 서울이지만 내가 가져온 서울의 모습은 이미 600년전부터 많이 바뀌지 않은 모습이고, 아마 지금도 그대로의 모습이기에 이렇게 여러분께 공개합니다.
이 사진들을 보며 서울의 모든 모습을 상상하긴 어렵겠지만 그래도 이런 모습들이 서울에서의 큰 부분중 하나라는 것을 같이 알아가면 좋겠습니다.
The Last moment in Seoul
In 2017, when I decided to leave for German, I suddenly realized that I had not traveled yet like a 'real traveler' in this city while unpacking my life in Seoul.
For 15 years of college, graduate school, and company life, I thought I had adapted better than anyone else and lived well here.
As such, Seoul was just a space of daylife for me.
Every single day, many people from all around the world visit to see this city, but I was just going around for commuting or occasional hanging out.
Before I left, I decided to be a traveler to remember Seoul.
I couldn't keep up with the eyes of first-time travelers, but I looked around and took pictures of places with visitor’s eye.
I captured Sungnyemun Gate, which was close to my house, Gyeongbokgung Palace, which passed by every day during rush hour, and the whole view of Seoul, which was seen every week from Namsan Mountain, on camera.
Perhaps because these scenery can feel exotic here in Germany, I edited it with a particular longing.
Although it was Seoul in 2017, the appearance of Seoul I brought has not changed much since 600 years ago, and probably still remains the same, so I'm starting Show you.
It's hard to imagine everything in Seoul while looking at these photos, but I hope you know that these are one of the big parts of Seoul.
